Callum Paterson – A fans farewell

Updated: Mar 17, 2021

You could argue that Callum Paterson ticked about every box for a Cardiff City fan regarding what they wanted in a player, work ethic, never gave up, always a joker, and as a bonus he loved to dance! It came as quite a shock to hear his name even mentioned with a possible move away from the Cardiff City Stadium, until Wednesday, I don't think many thought it would actually happen, myself being one of those.

Brought in for Neil Warnock's rebuilding mission after the failed Trollope experiment, he spent the first half of the 2017 season recovering from a knee injury, most Cardiff fans wondered what the Hearts fans had been so upset about and why they were raving about this Scottish international right back. It didn't take long for him to show what the Hearts fans had mentioned, but there was one difference, he must have forgotten how to defend! That was what Neil Warnock said at the time, moving him into midfield, and it paid off for him. 10 goals in the promotion season along with some trademark celebrations quickly turned Pato into more of a crowd favourite.

Even in the Premier League season, when we lacked any kind of striking prowess, Pato stepped up to the plate and became an unlikely hero on many occasion. Again his dancing lifting the spirits of all fans, and who can forget the iconic moment when he decided to two foot tackle the ball/net after Hoilett scored against Wolves.

It's safe to say that Pato has left his mark in bluebirds history and I'm so glad that he did. Sheffield Wednesday are lucky to have a player who will give everything for his shirt, and just to top it off, he's a great person off the pitch as well.

Good Luck Pato
